WHO WE ARE

The New York Municipal Empowerment Foundation (NYMEF) is organized to support and strengthen local governments in New York by promoting workforce development and increasing civic engagement. NYMEF aims to empower localities by investing in the next generation of local government officers and employees and inspiring active community participation in municipal affairs. NYMEF will serve these purposes by providing educational scholarships to individuals pursuing careers in local government and facilitating innovative idea campaigns to raise awareness and engagement around critical municipal issues. NYMEF will also provide assistance to support local governments in preserving their home rule authority. Through collaboration with localities, educational institutions, state municipal leagues, and community organizations, NYMEF seeks to build a skilled and informed workforce and community that enhances the effectiveness and sustainability of local government.

Our foundation is dedicated to advancing local government by:

Providing scholarships to students and municipal employees pursuing educational opportunities that strengthen the public sector workforce
Offering grants to towns in support of essential community projects and initiatives
Raising public awareness about the vital work and impact of our member towns and the frontline employees who serve them every day
